The Albanian Alps in the north of the country are still so strangely unknown, even to most Albanians in the lowlands, that they call the region the “Enchanted Mountains”. This part of the Alps is so remote that the age-old traditions of the people there have outlasted the Roman Empire, the reign of the Ottomans and communism. The beauty of these mountains is hard to put into words. Yet those who want to live there have to struggle each and every day.
